The Center for Women’s & Gender Studies (CWGS) and the University of Texas Libraries Human Rights Documentation Initiative (HRDI) invites you to the launch of the online video archive for the 2012 “Rethinking Power & Resistance: Gender and Human Rights from Texas to the Transnational Americas” Conference deposited at the HRDI.
This event will include lunch and a panel discussion to be held Tuesday, April 30, from Noon – 1:30 p.m., in the second-floor conference room of Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection in Sid Richardson Hall (SRH).
Please RSVP for lunch by Friday, April 26: firstname.lastname@example.org
One of the aims of the “Rethinking Power & Resistance” Conference was to build a foundation for ongoing relationships among university and community members who are engaged in issues of gender and human rights. The conference, held last October, is a project of the Embrey Critical Human Rights Initiative at CWGS.
At the April 30th event, a panel of “Rethinking Power & Resistance” conference participants will continue a conference discussion thread on gender justice. Panelists Dr. Matt Richardson, Associate Professor of English and African and African Diaspora Studies and CWGS Affiliate; Dr. Christen Smith, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and African and African Diaspora Studies; and Rose Pulliam, MSW, Co-Director of allgo, a statewide queer people of color organization, will use Dr. Smith’s research on the politics of performance, race, violence and the body in Brazil and the Americas, as a starting point for conversation about new opportunities for university-community collaboration.
