I was born in Georgia and reared in Texas, my father settling in Tyler County. In December, 1870, I went to Helena, and while I was there a young man named Silvers was killed by the sheriff. M. J. Bean was collector for the stockmen and I went with him on one of his trips. As we crossed the Frio River we saw a number of people congregating at a little house and learned from them that
