One of the able members of our Advisory Council supplied us with the following figures on contributions to the Geology

Foundation by alumni. We don't vouch for the precise accu racy of all the figures, but the general trend is clearly shown.

All of the members of the classes of 1903, 1915, 1916, 1918, and 1921 have made contributions.

It is not too surprising that the youngest alumni have made the fewest contributions, percentage-wise. We are proud of all who have taken part, and every dollar has been put to good use.

Farish Chair of Geology

In July 1960, Mrs. Libbie Rice Farish of Houston and New York donated the first of three annual installments of $100,000 each to the Geology Foundation for the establishment of the William Stamps Farish Chair of Geology at The University of Texas. The designation of the endowment is a tribute to her husband, who was a distinguished industrialist and one of the organizers of the Humble Oil & Refining Company. The Farish Foundation has further agreed to provide $12,000 annually until the endowment is complete, so that an appointment to the chair can be made immediately. To this amount, the University will add sufficient income to create one of the most desirable teaching positions in the field of geology. It will bring a new professor with real distinction to the Department of Geology.

During the last 10 months the faculty has been examining the qualifications of possible candidates for the William Stamps Farish Chair of Geology. Several outstanding men have agreed to be considered for the position, which will prob ably be filled by September 1962, when laboratory and office space will be provided by the University administrators.

Mrs. Farish has made a great and lasting contribution to the effectiveness and excellence of the Department of Geology, for which generations of Texas geologists will be grateful.

Heyer Memorial Fund

Slightly more than a year ago Mrs. Jane Gregory Marechal increased the endowment of the George S. Heyer Memorial Fund, established in honor of her former husband, to approxi mately $80,000. The annual income from the fund amounts to more than $3,000, which may be applied toward travel, re search, scholarships and other worthy activities supported by the Geology Foundation.

Bybee Memorial Fund

The Hal P. Bybee Memorial Fund has now passed the $40, --000 mark and is growing rapidly as a consequence of the de votion of Dr. Bybee's students and friends. The fund is in vested, and its earnings are being added to the principal until the goal of $100,000 is reached. Ultimately the income will
