Rubén Darío Rare Items on Display
Rubén Darío (1867–1916) was a Nicaraguan poet, journalist, and diplomat. As a leader of the literary movement known as Modernismo, which flourished at the end of the 19th century, he revitilized and modernized poetry in Spanish on both sides of the Atlantic through his experiments with rhythm, meter, and imagery. Darío developed a highly original poetic style that renewed a tradition. Items on display include excerpts from his masterpiece Cantos de vida y esperanza; a first edition of Azul (Valparaíso, Chile, 1888), Darío's seminal collection of poetry and prose; and an issue of the acclaimed magazine Mundial, of which he was editorial director.
