REFERENCE WORKS
Drug Trafficking Research in the Americas: An Annotated
Bibliography. edited by Bruce M. Bagley. Miami, FL: North-South
Center, 1997.
A well-annotated bibliography of writings relating to drug control
policies in the Americas. It also includes chapters on specific
issues such as the U.S. military and the drug war, human rights and
North-South cooperation in the context of the drug war.
Giorlandini, Eduardo. Diccionario de la droga y del
narcotráfico. Bahía Blanca: Instituto Superior Juan
XXIII,'1995. A good resource for drug-related terms, translations,
and slang in Spanish. Includes citations to the source books from
which definitions were taken.
International Handbook on Drug Control. Westport, CT:
Greenwood Press, 1992.
This overview deals not just with Latin America but with the world at
large. Sections are divided by geographic region with individual
chapters devoted to countries where illegal drugs are a significant
issue. Each chapter gives an overview of the region or country to be
discussed and is followed by an ample bibliography.
Tullis, F. LaMond. Handbook of Research on the Illicit Drug
Traffic: Socioeconomic and Political Consequences. New York:
Greenwood, 1991.
Provides a well-balanced overview of perspectives on drug policy with
the various positions linked to an extensive, broadly representative,
annotated bibliography. The bibliography is illustrative of the
cyclical nature of drug stories; the names change but the same
stories keep appearing. Since most of the cited materials predate the
fall of the Berlin Wall, it is worth noting the predominance of
articles arguing against the use of the military in the drug war.
