| The London firm of Smith and Brewer contributed to the Arts and Crafts Movement in England with their designs for domestic architecture inspired by the English vernacular. Both architects attended the Royal Academy Schools in the 1890s and were members of the Art Workers’ Guild. Smith and Brewer began their practice in 1895 after winning the competition for the Passmore Edwards Settlement, judged by Richard Norman Shaw. Perhaps their best known design is the National Museum of Wales (1910). This collection of over 5,000 drawings is one of the largest holdings of their work. |
