Timeline
- 1909: Cass Gilbert became the University architect.
- 1909-1910: Gilbert designed the Library for the University of Texas, which is now known as Battle Hall. See Gilbert's original drawings and building specifications.
- 1910: Date on building's cornerstone.
- 1911: Construction completed.
- 1911-1937: Battle Hall functioned as Main Library for the University of Texas.
- 1924: cornice repair proposals by Herbert M. Greene.
- 1929: proposed addition (unbuilt) by Herbert M. Greene.
- 1937: Department of Art moved into the building as the Main Library was moved to the new Main Building.
- 1937-1947: Battle Hall housed the Art department and art studios. The reading room was used for instruction, particularly drawing and sculpture.
- 1946: The University Board of Regents approved a motion to renovate the building to convert it into a repository for Texas memorabilia.
- 1950: Building dedicated in April as the Eugene Barker Texas History Center.
- 1950-1973: Barker Texas History Center located in the building.
- 1970: Battle Hall placed on the National Register of Historic Places, under the names Barker History Center, or the Old Library.
- Early 1970s: Education Psychology Library, Music Library, Barker Texas History Center, and the College of Fine Arts administration occupy spaces within the building.
- 1973: Barker Texas History moved to Sid Richardson Hall. Architecture Library moves from Goldsmith Hall into Battle Hall.
- 1977: Ed-Psych. Library moves out of Battle Hall to Perry-CastaƱeda (Main) Library.
- 1979: Music Library moves to new Fine Arts Building Architecture & Planning Library is main occupant of Battle Hall Architectural Drawings Collection established.
- 1981: Plans to restore Battle Hall for occupation by the School of Architecture canceled.
- 1993: Battle Hall receives an exterior "face-lift". Exterior maintenance drawings for Project No. 3-3221 can be found at PMCS.
- 1997: Architectural Drawings Collection moves into Battle Hall Room 6 (The Charles W. Moore Room) and Room 2.
- 1998: Architectural Drawings Collection renamed Alexander Architectural Archive, in honor of Prof. Emeritus D. Blake Alexander.
