About this Project

The Battle Hall website began in the summer of 2008 as an independent study project. Under the guidance of Beth Dodd, School of Information Master's student Lorrie Dong began by assessing the needs of the website's potential users. She also assessed the content and condition of Battle Hall-related documents currently held at the Architecture & Planning Library and the Alexander Architecture Archive, such as blueprints, building specifications, and correspondence. This project additionally led Lorrie to the Center for American History and Project Management & Construction Services. In order to provide access to and ensure preservation of the Battle Hall materials, Lorrie scanned and processed many items at the Digitization Lab at the Perry-CastaƱeda (Main) Library. The project culminated in the development of a Battle Hall website that would be fully integrated with the University of Texas Libraries website, and would provide researchers and other interested parties with information on the history of the building and its architects.

Lorrie is now an IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services) Doctoral Preservation Fellow at The University of Texas School of Information.
