Graduate Research Assistant (GRA)

POSITION AVAILABLE: Immediately, on an hourly basis until GRA appointment commences September 1, 2014. Position is subject for renewal each semester. 
WORK SCHEDULE: 12:00 NOON to 8:00pm Fridays; 11:30am to 5:30pm, Saturdays; 11:30am to 5:30pm Sundays, for a total of twenty hours per week.
DUTIES: Oversee student staff and, as needed, staff the Research Help and Check Out desk. Assist users with inquiries and problems, including questions about services and facilities. Assist with materials retrieval processing. Provide card and access services to users. Assist users in the location of library materials and basic reference inquiries.  Perform unit opening or closing procedures.  Assist with other assigned tasks as necessary.
REQUIRED: Customer service experience. Ability to maintain scheduled hours. Graduate student in the School of Information enrolled for at least 9 semester hours during the fall and spring semesters, and for at least 3 semester hours during the summer session. Student must be in good academic standing. 
PREFERRED: Public service experience in an academic library. Library circulation experience and experience with automated circulation systems. Excellent oral communications skills.  Initiative and ability to work independently.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work as part of a team to provide service. Work under stress. Extensive customer/patron contact. Work with little or no supervision.
SALARY: $1,063 per month. Exemption from non-resident tuition. Some benefits apply.
