AUSTIN, TX (September 8, 2003) — "Information and information on how to access that information is what they're hungry for," says Damon Jaggars, Head, Undergraduate Library and Deputy Associate Director for Public Services for the General Libraries, as he stands in the lobby of the Texas Union with a wireless laptop on the nearby desk. He emphasizes that the new "Librarians on Location" program is designed to help meet the research and information needs of students in an innovative, timesaving and convenient way.
During this fall semester, librarians with their trusty wireless laptops will move beyond the walls of various General Libraries units and into the Texas Union. Each Tuesday from noon until 4:00 p.m. librarians will be available in the Texas Union lobby next to the Information Center (second level/ground floor) to help students with their research.
Michele Ostrow, Head of General Libraries Library Instruction and Information Literacy Services, and co-coordinator of the "Librarian on Location" pilot project, points out that the program is designed to encourage students to keep the library and its information specialists at the forefront of their research. Ostrow emphasizes that plans are in the works to expand the program into other locations as soon as staffing and schedules permit.
For more information on the program and the locations and times that librarians will be available, consult the Librarian on Location web site or contact Michele Ostrow, Flawn Academic Center (FAC) 250, micheleo@mail.utexas.edu, (512) 495-4534.
