University of Texas Libraries appoints four new librarians

AUSTIN, Texas (October 13, 2004) — Four professional librarians have new appointments on the staff of the University of Texas Libraries, The University of Texas at Austin.

Catherine L. Hamer is the Document Delivery Librarian, Interlibrary Services, and joined the staff on September 20, 2004.

Hamer most recently was Head of Access Services, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, HI. She has also held positions at California State University Monterey Bay Library, University of Maryland University College Library and George Washington University Library. Hamer holds a B.A. in social science from California State University, Sacramento; M.A. in international affairs, George Washington University; and M.L.I.S. from San Jose State University.

Janelle Hedstrom was promoted to Head of Reference and Outreach, Undergraduate Library Services, effective September 27, 2004.

Hedstrom's most recent position was Information Literacy Librarian, Library Instruction and Information Literacy Services, University of Texas Libraries. She has also held positions at the Bastrop (TX) Public Library and Texas Culinary Academy, Austin, TX. Hedstrom has at B.A. in sociology and anthropology from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and M.L.I.S. from The University of Texas at Austin.

April Kessler has accepted the position of Business/Economics Librarian, Reference and Information Services Department, effective October 1, 2004.

Kessler was formerly Library Assistant II, Reference and Information Services, University of Texas Libraries, and Adjunct Librarian, Austin Community College. She has also held positions at the Professional Development Center, University of Texas at Austin; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas; Wichita (KS) Public Library; and Media Partners, Inc., Wichita, KS.

Kessler has a B.A. in communications and M.B.A. from Wichita State University (KS) and M.S.I.S. from The University of Texas at Austin.

Alan Ringwood is the Head of Music Cataloging, Cataloging Department, and joined the Libraries on September 20, 2004.

Ringwood formerly was Music Cataloger, University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C. He has also held positions at Indiana University. Ringwood holds a B.M. in flute performance and M.M. degrees in flute performance and music theory from Boston University and M.L.S. from Indiana University.
