Library loan period for undergraduates increased to 28 days
UGL "regular" materials now circulate for 28 days to entire University community
Austin, TX (August 26, 2002)-Undergraduates at the University can now borrow regularly circulating library materials from any General Libraries unit for 28 days, instead of 14 days. In addition, the loan period for "regular" books in the Undergraduate Library has been increased from 14 days to 28 days for all members of the University community.
The University Library Committee, composed of faculty and student representatives, recommended these changes in April 2002. The new loan policy went into effect August 2, 2002.
This extension of the undergraduate loan period, in tandem with the recent expansion of the loan period for graduate students, provides much-requested additional time for use of library materials by students.
These changes are for the loan of regularly circulating materials. Excluded are limited-access materials, special-format materials, and reserve materials with loan periods designated by faculty. "New Books" in the Perry-Castañeda Library and "Popular Books" in the Undergraduate Library will continue to be available for a 14-day loan period.
The 14-day loan period continues for circulating items borrowed by library users with Courtesy Borrower cards.
Note: University community users who checked out regularly circulating items on 14-day loan before August 2, 2002, must renew the items in person at a circulation desk in order to convert them to the new 28-day loan. Online renewal will not automatically change the loan to a 28-day loan.
