Event: The University of Texas Libraries and the College of Natural Sciences co-sponsor a watch party of sessions from the 2013 ScienceOnline conference.

When: 5:30-9:30pm, Thursday, March 7, 2013.

Where: Painter Hall, Room 4.42 (map), The University of Texas at Austin.

 Background: The University of Texas Libraries and the Office of the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Programs, College of Natural Sciences, co-sponsor a watch party of sessions from ScienceOnline 2013, an annual conference held in Durham, North Carolina, focused on the role of the internet in science.

The two sessions to be presented will be chosen by popular vote. Descriptions of the sessions under consideration are available at

Joe Hanson, a conference attendee, will moderate discussions and provide a report on the conference. Hanson, a biology graduate student, created the science blog, “It’s Okay To Be Smart,” which was featured in Best Science Writing Online 2012, and was one of Time magazine’s 30 Must-See Tumblrs for 2012.

Comments from the discussions will be relayed to ScienceOnline for inclusion in a summary ePub of conversations and insights from the conference.

The event is free and open to the public, with pizza (while it lasts) for attendees.
