Faculty and Staff Book Exhibit now on view in PCL
Reception for authors to be held Thursday, November 7

AUSTIN, TX (October 31, 2002) - The annual Faculty and Staff Book Exhibit of works by University of Texas at Austin scholars is now on view in the entrance floor lobby of the Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL) on the Austin campus. "The exhibit of 120 titles represents the work of some 114 faculty and staff authors," points out Shiela Winchester, coordinator of the exhibit.

Topics covered in the display include learning Turkish through song; the German law of torts; gender and sexuality in the American musical; seismic sedimentology by stratal slicing; and magic and hypersystems.

The College of Liberal Arts has the most books with 47, followed by the School of Law with 35. The Department of English has seven authors and eight books, followed by the Department of Philosophy (five authors/nine books) and the Bureau of Economic Geology (five authors/five books). Some authors were very productive: eight authors are represented by two titles; seven authors by three; two authors by four books; and one author with five.

There are nineteen books specifically on or about Texas and fourteen titles that mention the name of a country outside of the U.S. Nine books are written entirely or mostly in a language other than English. Nine authors wrote on topics relating to libraries and librarianship.

The book with the longest title: Competing Effects of Depositional Architecture and Diagenesis on Carbonate Reservoir Development: Grayburg Formation, South Cowden Field, West Texas (18 words and 131 letters). Most intriguing title: Non-Gaussian Merton-Black-Scholes Theory.

A reception to honor authors represented in the exhibit will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2002, from 3:00-4:30p.m., near the exhibit cases in the lobby of the Perry-Castañeda Library. The Faculty and Staff Book Exhibit will be on view through January 17, 2003.
