EVENT: Excessive Noise Concert Series featuring music for winds with Chris Prosser, Russell Podgorsek, and performances by the Butler School of Music Graduate Saxophone Quartet, the Aero Quintet, and current DMA students Charlotte Daniel (flute) and Chad Ibison (guitar).
WHEN: 6 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2015.
WHERE: Fine Arts Library (DFA 3.200) at The University of Texas at Austin
BACKGROUND: The first Excessive Noise concert of 2015 will feature chamber music for winds including "Jabberwock" by current Butler School of Music (BSOM) DMA student Chris Prosser; "Poco Adagio" by BSOM alumnus Russell Podgorsek; and performances by the Butler School of Music Graduate Saxophone Quartet, the Aero Quintet, and current DMA students Charlotte Daniel (flute) and Chad Ibison (guitar).
The concert — subtitled "winter winds... by Pale Blue. part 1" — will be presented in conjunction with a special event at the Butler School of Music on February 5th featuring new works for wind ensemble by current students and alumni.
Excessive Noise is an occasional concert series hosted by the Fine Arts Library. Curated by Podgorsek — an alumnus of the Butler School of Music — the series provides students with an opportunity to perform chamber and solo works beyond those required by their degree programs, and for the premier of original works beyond the classroom. While generally in the classical vein, Excessive Noise features work from a variety of traditions and perspectives.
The event is free and open to the public, and $3 parking permits are available for attendees.
