Excessive Noise Concert Features Stravinsky, Hindemith and Butler Talent, 2/23
EVENT: Excessive Noise, an ongoing concert series, features work by Stravinsky, Hindemith and university composers.
WHEN: 6 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013.
WHERE: Fine Arts Library (DFA 3.200) at The University of Texas at Austin.
BACKGROUND: The spring installment of the Excessive Noise concert series features “Three Pieces for Clarinet" by Igor Stravinsky, "Der Schwanendreher" by Paul Hindemith, the premiere of "Tres Canciones" by Russell Podgorsek and a composition by recent Longhorn alum Hermes Camacho. Performers include graduate students — and University of Texas Libraries employees — Pamela Wilkinson, Renata van der Vyver and Andrea Ramos along with recent graduates and university community members.
Excessive Noise is an occasional concert series hosted by the Fine Arts Library. Organized by Russell Podgorsek — a doctoral student of composition in the Butler School of Music and part-time employee of the Fine Arts Library — the series provides students with an opportunity to perform chamber and solo works beyond those required by their degree programs, additionally allowing artists an opportunity to premiere original works beyond the classroom. While generally in the classical vein, Excessive Noise features work from a variety of traditions and perspectives.
The event is free and open to the public.
