Borrowing
The Fine Arts Library is an open stack library. Materials on reserve and in
special collections, audio-visual materials, microfilm, and microfiche are
available on request from the circulation desk.
Certain categories of materials are limited to use in the library. Periodicals,
current or bound, and reference books circulate for two hours only. Materials
are loaned according to policies described in the Lending and Use Code available
in all public service units of the University of Texas Libraries. The Fine Arts Library has
additional loan periods and policies for special
materials. The Circulation Desk phone number is (512) 495-4481. If you return
items late, damage items, or lose them, you will be assessed fines and/or fees.
Room Reservations
The FAL has 4 rooms available for library sessions and meetings; they must be reserved in advance.
Renew
If you would like to keep items past their due date, you can renew them either
at the circulation desk or online. Only items with loan periods of two weeks or
longer can be renewed online.
Recall
If you would like a book that is checked out to someone else, you can put a
recall on it either online or at the circulation desk. The person will not be
able to renew the book and you will be notified as soon as it is available.
Return
Books may be returned at the FAL circulation desk or another University of Texas Library's
circulation desk or remote return. The Fine Arts Library also has a book and media drop, which is
located at the second floor entrance on the west side of the building. Reserves
materials must be returned to the Fine Arts Library
circulation desk.
Reserves
Lists of items on reserve are filed under instructor name and by course
number in the University of Texas Library Catalog. Books and media placed on closed reserve are available for limited loan periods at the circulation
desk. Digital reserves (known as "ERes") provide students with online access to
a variety of materials, such as articles from journals, pages from books, and audiovisual materials, which have been placed on reserve by instructors for students enrolled in
their courses.
Media Services
The Fine Arts Library is equipped with audiovisual stations and seminar
rooms. Stations are fitted with the full range of audiovisual equipment needed
to view or listen to the collection. Equipment includes players for CDs, DVDs,
CD-ROMs, videotapes (all encoding types), videodiscs, audiocassettes, and LPs. Three
seminar rooms (one seats 24 persons, two seat 12 each) and one viewing room (seats 8) have audiovisual equipment and slide projectors.
Room Reservations are necessary to use these rooms.
